Journal Entry Number 5

Over the past few weeks I have been working incessantly on module 3835.
I have completed the first draft of nearly all the components however I feel I need some feedback from my tutor before I can improve on them further. I am continuing to research all aspects of my project for the proposal.

I wish more advice had been given throughout the module about how to write a proposal as I have no existing knowledge on the process. I have however, read up as much as I could find on the subject. There has been so much to consider and research for this proposal.

Writing the proposal has really made me consider every possible outcome and all the planning and preparation which is required for an investigation - from the ethics to the methodologies, from the organisation and timetabling to the research and reading. Not only have I studied my subject topic in depth, I have also studied learning methods and research techniques which I hope will make me a more efficient and effective researcher.

One thing I have struggled with throughout the module is having so few lectures and opportunities to meet with my tutor for feedback. As the nature of the course is to study on your own and acquire knowledge in an organic way, I am often concerned that I am on the wrong lines and would like some confirmation that I am on the right track. Perhaps this highlights that I am the sort of person who likes to be reassured I am doing things well or correctly, when instead I should have more confidence in my abilities. I think the reason I like to know I am on the right lines is so I don’t waste time writing irrelevant information. However, I am aware that making mistakes is also an excellent way to learn!

  1. LB - if you look at the main MDX website under the Institute of work based learning you will find information about the work based learning process - or model- that we have basically been following with some BAPP adaptions. It is very different from other forms of learning in Higher Education and Further Education - and the MDX model is transdisciplinary - so crosses boundaries in the workplace. So it might seem like a bit of an adventure but it is based on sound principles and pedagogy.
